Many patients with PAD have symptoms of intermittent claudication IC (PAD-IC) in which pain occurs in the affected muscle during walking and is relieved by rest. Intermittent claudication is associated with decreased walking ability and decreased physical function particularly in activities that require walking. Historically, PAD has been diagnosed, quantified, and managed primarily on blood flow measurements.
