NaturalBus raffling off 1972 Volkswagen

Volkswagen bus owners are gathering this weekend at JellystoneCampground in Natural Bridge Station for camaraderie, good timesand a raffle of one of their beloved vehicles.

The annual NaturalBus event, sponsored by Full Moon Bus, startstoday and ends about noon Sunday.

The Saturday raffle of a 1972 bus that's been restored during thepast four months will benefit the Roanoke Ronald McDonald House onJefferson Street.

Jeff Burks of Roanoke, the spokesman for Full Moon, an Internetclub, said this year marks 10th anniversary of NaturalBus. Heexpects at least 100 VW buses to be on display as owners gather toreminisce.

The cost is $10 per person per night to camp with the buses and$3 for children.

During each of the past eight years, NaturalBus has raisedbetween $1,000 and $3,500 for the 18-bedroom Ronald McDonald House,said Laney Mofield, house director.

Ronald McDonald House caters to out-of-town families ofcritically ill children in Roanoke Valley hospitals. RonaldMcDonald House volunteers also staff a family room on the 14thfloor at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to provide respite,snacks and other services to families.

The seventh annual Angels of Hope Charity Walk takes place from 8a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 at the Salem Civic Center.

The walk is the largest and primary source of funding for NoahChristian Community Center - Angels of Hope Outreach Ministry Inc., which provides educational, recreational and faith-basedprograms to socioeconomically challenged youth and works to bringawareness to high fetal and infant death rates in Virginia.

Proceeds from previous walks, which have raised more than$50,000, have gone to the University of Virginia Children'sHospital and the outreach center at 3223 Brandon Ave.

Walk activities will include a silent auction, liveentertainment, youth games and face painting, refreshments, aballoon release and a penny drive to support a small village ofstudents in Malawi, Africa.
